CMST 220 Public Speaking Annotated Bibliography

Annotated Bibliography Assignment – 50 points

This assignment will:

·         Encourage you to begin the research PROCESS EARLY

·         To utilize the text and  information in class towards the task of doing research

·         Re-enforce the importance of research in the speech writing process

·         Provide a solid basis of evidence for the development of your speeches

·         Commit to a topic choice for the informative, persuasive and final speeches

Create an annotated bibliography for you informative speech topic that contains the following:

1.        At least one article from an academic journal

2.       A magazine article

3.       An internet source

4.       At least two books

5.        An additional source of your choice (i.e.  Interview, CD, TV show, etc.)

Each entry is annotated with a summary paragraph indicating why you believe this source swill be helpful in the development of your speech.

Formatting:

Divide your annotated bibliography into sections according to each entry type (i.e. book, magazine, etc.

Please use MLA citation standards.  You will find Information in your text and on line at the library.    Citation Reference Help at:

Books (section head)

Robinson, Kenneth.  Out of our Minds:  Learning to be Creative … (source citation)

                The reason I chose this book for my speech is that… (Summary paragraph)

Grade based on:

1.        Quality of materials in the bibliography

2.        Quality of summary of materials ( annotations)

3.        Adherence to the  MLA form ( thoroughly and accurately)

4.       Overall quality of presentation
