ProQuest is mostly used for finding newspapers and magazines, but it also has a good selection of academic journals related to popular culture, including the Journal of Popular Film & Television, Film Quarterly, Journal of Popular Culture, and more.
In order to find full-text, academic sources without having to sift through the many newspapers and magazines, I highly recommend you check the "full text" and "peer reviewed" boxes, as shown below.
Academic Search Complete isn't quite as strong in popular culture journals as ProQuest, but valuable in finding peer-reviewed articles.
